Democracies, corporations and herds often move on the majority principle. Leaders, rulers and commanders are chosen by the majority to take decisions on their behalf. Even if those turn out to be completely unfavorable or less still disastrous to the entire group.
Minority often can be significant other half of the population, and they might have little say on decisions taken on their behalf. This is truer to corporations where the minority is often unorganized lot despite being a large group. And this is where protection of minority interest is paramount. Several measure for their protection might be already in place and despite these, there have been several instances where the rights / gains have been siphoned off.
